The Carroll American Legion is broadcasting live with KCIM, KKRL and KIKD from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today (Wednesday) just to the west of the new Casey’s General Store on Highway 30 for the Together We Stand fundraiser. For the last 30 years, the Legion has put flags along the highway on major national holidays, but those symbols of our national pride are beginning to show their age. Only a few hours have passed since they started collecting donations to purchase new flags, and the turnout has been tremendous so far. There are many reasons to contribute to this great cause. For Clay Winterboer, it is about keeping a tradition alive.

For others, like Laurie Schon and Kathy Kerkhoff, the flags are a tribute to family members who have served.

Donations have even come in from people who don’t live in Carroll, such as Bob Siemann.

So, whatever your reason, stop by the new Casey’s General Store before 6 p.m. and help the longstanding Carroll American Legion’s tradition of lining Highway 30 with American flags on national holidays continue.
