The Carroll Police Department responded to two accidents on Wednesday, one another rear-end collision and the other potentially attributed to the wintry weather. Officers responded to U.S. Highway 71 and 18th Street at approximately 7:36 a.m. on the report of a three-vehicle accident. The initial investigation revealed that 15-year-old Madison Renze of Auburn was southbound on 71 in a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and stopped for traffic. Twenty-one-year-old Caitlin Reis of Odebolt was behind Renze in a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, slowing to come to a stop. Behind Reis was 52-year-old John Hensel of Auburn, driving a 2006 Ford F-150. Hensel failed to slow down and struck the Reis vehicle, causing a chain reaction with Reis hitting the rear of the Renze SUV. No injuries were reported, but there was functional damage done to all three vehicles. Hensel was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to provide insurance. The second accident occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. at the intersection of Grant and Granada Road. Sixteen-year-old Abby Farrell of Carroll was traveling on Grant road when she lost control and struck a no parking sign off the roadway.
