Trial information has been filed in District Court for Carroll County against a Carroll man accused of stealing from residents while working inside their home. According to court records, 49-year-old Matthew Wayne Dierenfeld is formally charged with forgery, a class D felony, and third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charges stem from an investigation by the Carroll Police Department, which alleges Dierenfeld stole items valued at over $750 and a credit card from a residence in the 700 block of North Court Street from Sept. 1 to Oct. 23. Authorities say he then used the stolen credit card at a local convenience store. Dierenfeld’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12 at the courthouse. If found guilty, he faces a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and $13,750 in fines.
