Carroll Woman Arrested For Allegedly Using Credit Card From Stolen Purse

A Carroll woman was taken into custody Thursday by the Carroll Police Department for allegedly using a credit card from a stolen purse. Authorities responded to Availa Bank at approximately 3:35 p.m. on Dec. 3 and spoke to the victim, who reported she had fraudulent charges on her account. She told law enforcement she had lost her wallet around 2 p.m. Monday while shopping at Dollar General. An investigation identified three suspicious transactions, two on Dec. 2 totaling over $88 and another Dec. 3 for $12. Surveillance footage was obtained from Dollar General and Sparky’s One Stop that showed the suspect, 35-year-old Katie Marie Johnson of Carroll, using the stolen card. Johnson was arrested and transported to the Carroll County jail, where she was charged with three counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, aggravated misdemeanors. She was released from custody on her own recognizance and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 19. An aggravated misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of $6,250 in fines and up to two years in prison.
