The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education adopted 19 new or updated board policies at Monday night’s meeting. Most of the changes stem from recommendations from the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB). Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says they cover nondiscrimination procedures, meeting organization, ethics and other similar topics.
He adds these will not result in significant differences in how the district operates on a day-to-day basis. The final two policies address a rule adopted in August by the Iowa Department of Education adopted rules in August that will require seat belts to be installed on buses built after Oct. 2. Berlau says the district will now require all students to attend bus safety seminars.
They voted unanimously to adopt all 19 policies, which go into effect following their publication. The board also approved the first reading of a new policy regarding how purchases are conducted. There are specific legal requirements for when they make improvements or upgrades but not for goods and services. Berlau says the change makes purchasing practices more consistent.
The first reading was approved unanimously, and the second reading is expected to pass during the board’s January meeting. Links to the specific language for the polices discussed at Monday’s meeting can be found included with this story on our website.
