A Manning man already facing a weapons charge in District Court for Carroll County now faces a new charge for hunting in city limits. According to a criminal complaint from the Manning Police Department, 36-year-old Trevor Martin Matheny, who has also listed residence in Sioux City, was arrested at approximately 8:50 a.m. Saturday after he was found lying in the grass behind several homes on Elm Street. Authorities say he was in possession of a loaded shotgun and was hunting for coyotes. He was taken into custody and transported to the Carroll County jail, where he was charged with carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor. Matheny is scheduled for trial on Jan. 14 in connection to a separate incident. He was arrested on July 8 in Manning after authorities located a 15-inch knife in a bag on the front passenger seat during a traffic stop. Iowa law prohibits concealing a knife over five inches without a permit. An aggravated misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and up to $6,250 in fines.
