Officers with the Carroll Police Department responded to three accidents over the past weekend. The first was reported at approximately 11:48 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27 in the 1800 block of U.S. Highway 71 north. A 2013 Dodge Charger, driven by 59-year-old Charles Park of Brandon, S.D., was southbound on 71 as was a 2014 GMC Acadia, driven by 19-year-old Theodore Aldag of Wall Lake. Aldag struck the Park vehicle, causing functional damage to both. Aldag was cited for following too close. The second accident was also on Friday, called in at approximately 10:06 p.m. Upon arrival, officers learned that 57-year-old John Bruggeman of Carroll was southbound on Highway 71 in a 2010 Toyota Sienna, making a turn onto Ely Drive. As he was turning, however, he swerved to avoid hitting a dog in the road and struck a light pole. Bruggeman was cited for failure to maintain control. The final reported accident occurred at approximately 2:47 p.m. Sunday in the 20000 block of Kittyhawk Avenue. Twenty-eight-year-old Jordyn Douglas of Glidden was westbound on U.S. Highway 30 in a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. The driver claimed a mechanical defect caused the brakes to lock up and the car to slide into a concrete barrier on the viaduct. No injuries were reported but the vehicle suffered disabling damage.
