A woman made famous by not only her role in the largest toxic tort injury settlement case in the U.S., but also for being portrayed on the big screen by Julia Roberts, will be a featured speaker at the 2020 Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit. Erin Brockovich uncovered the 30-year-long poisoning of groundwater in Hinkley, Calif. by Pacific Gas and Electric. She got to the truth by digging in and not giving up until she exposed it and she will bring that same tenacious spirit to the summit in helping others “go head-to-head with the big boys.” “If anyone knows what it’s like to face an uphill battle against a powerful industry, it’s Erin Brockovich,” said Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) Executive Director, Monte Shaw. “She truly is proof that one person can make a difference, and she believes that everyone – in their own way – can do the same.” This inspiring message, Shaw added, is aligned with the challenges biofuels are facing with the powerful petroleum industry. The 2020 Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit will be held at the Prairie Meadows Conference Center on Jan. 16. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
