Trial For Cherokee Man Accused Of Burglaries In Templeton And Dedham Four Years Ago Scheduled For Next Month

The case against a Cherokee man accused of multiple burglaries in Carroll County in August of 2015 has been reopened with jury proceedings set to get underway next month. Court documents say 29-year-old Shawn Edward Boger faces four counts of third-degree burglary, class D felonies with habitual offender enhancements. Boger is alleged to have broken into Irlmeier Paint and The Still in Templeton and Southside Lounge and Donna’s Café in Dedham. An affidavit claims he stole a large amount of cash and damaged ATMs, jukeboxes and gaming machines at these locations as part of a multistate crime spree, which came to an end following his arrest in Briggsdale, Colo. on Oct. 15, 2015. The Carroll County charges against Boger were dismissed last September due to Iowa’s three-year statute of limitations on burglary. However, the case was reopened after the courts determined he had been out of the state for a significant amount of time and the statute of limitations did not apply. Boger pled not guilty to the charges and is scheduled for trial beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
