A Carroll woman accused of stealing a cell phone from a patron at a local laundromat has entered a not guilty plea to one count of third-degree theft. Carroll County District Court records show 41-year-old Letitia Lynn Hightower filed her written plea Wednesday to the aggravated misdemeanor charge. Her arrest stems from an investigation by the Carroll Police Department into an incident on Nov. 3 at the Midwest Coin Laundry in the 1200 block of Highway 30 West. Authorities say security camera footage shows Hightower taking the victim’s Samsung Galaxy Note 10, valued at $1,000, placing it in her back pocket and leaving the building. The jury trial is scheduled to begin March 24, preceded by a pretrial conference on Feb. 27. If found guilty, Hightower faces up to two years in prison and a maximum of $6,250 in fines.
