CCSD Board Of Education Will Consider Revisions To Early Retirement Incentive And Ar-We-Va Class Sharing Agreement At Monday’s Meeting

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education will bring their voluntary early retirement program back for discussion at their meeting next week. At their November meeting, the board voted unanimously to offer employees who are at least 55 years old and have worked for 15 consecutive years within the district up to $20,000 to retire. This will allow for younger and generally lower paid teachers to take their place. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says they still intend to offer the voluntary early retirement incentive but are making a slight adjustment.

He adds it does not make sense for the district to place such strict limitations on rehiring, especially considering the difficulty schools have had filling positions in recent years. The plan allows for up to six employees to participate, but nine applications have been turned in so far. Berlau notes the board does have the option to allow additional employees to enroll and will be discussing it further during the meeting. They will then move on to administrative reports, which includes updates from each of the building principals and eight new or revised district policies. Berlau says they will consider extending the high school class sharing agreement with Ar-We-Va.

Besides some difficulties with scheduling, students, teachers and administrators from both schools have been pleased with the arrangement. The board will close out the meeting with reports from the business office. Director of Business Affairs, Gary Bengtson, will review the current status of the district’s funding silos. They will also discuss extending a longstanding agreement with Kuemper Catholic Schools and the City of Carroll for the Carroll Area FFA.

The Monday, Jan. 20 meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Adams Elementary School boardroom. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. A link to the full agenda can be found included with this story on our website.
