What Was Supposed To Be A Prank Wasn’t So Funny After Seven Law Enforcement Officers Respond

What started as a prank became a serious matter in Jefferson Wednesday night after authorities became involved. The Jefferson Police Department reports officers were flagged down at approximately 9:18 p.m. in the 800 block of East Lincoln Way by a mother who told them someone had been stabbed at the fairgrounds. The same parent then reported it was at the softball fields in the 900 block of East Lincoln Way. The officers that responded found a male juvenile who told them his friend had been stabbed near Graffiti Bridge in the 1500 block of South Mulberry Street. Based on this information, five Jefferson Police Officers and two Greene County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area. They located a group of juveniles and learned that a 16-year-old male among them had “pranked” his friends by claiming he had been stabbed. However, many of those present at that time fled before finding out it was merely a prank and reported the event to their parents. The 16 year old was arrested and charged with causing a false report of an indictable offense to authorities, a serious misdemeanor. The case has been remanded to the juvenile courts and the teen was released to a guardian.
