Musicians from Sac City and the surrounding area are coming together for their first rehearsal this weekend as they work to develop a county-wide band. The band is being formed with support from the Sac City Chamber of Commerce, and according to President, Lance Wilhelm, it has been over three decades since anything similar has existed within the county.
Wilhelm adds there appears to be a pent-up demand for recreational opportunities for the musically inclined. More than 20 people have already expressed interest in joining the Sac County Band, and Wilhelm encourages anybody wanting to join to come to their first rehearsal on Sunday, Feb. 16. Practice begins at 2 p.m. at the East Sac County Middle School in Sac City. Interested individuals should enter through the west doors. Wilhelm says musicians of all ages and skill levels are invited to attend.
He adds retired band director, Bill Kolbe, will be leading the rehearsals, and they are planning for live performances during the summer. Wilhelm says they understand that people are already plenty busy and are trying to keep the time commitment as small as possible.
