Because cancer touches the lives of so many and in thinking of the parishes and parishioners affected throughout the Sioux City Diocese, they recently pledge $200,000 in support of the St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center. “Caring for the sick has been a mission of the Catholic Church since its formation thousands of years ago,” says Bishop R. Walker Nickless. “The mission of St. Anthony Regional Hospital aligns with the mission of the Diocese and we are pleased to support the regional cancer center with this donation. May Saint Peregrine Novena, patron of cancer sufferers, intercede for those ailing from the dreaded disease of cancer.” To date, the Building Hope Capital Campaign has received support from across 14 states and 21 Iowa counties, 12 of which are in the Sioux City Diocese. This further demonstrates how important the cancer center is to west central Iowa. Construction on the $16.5 million, 21,000 square foot center began in May of 2019 with an expected opening date in December of 2020.
