Every quarter, IowaWORKS honors veterans, active duty military and National Guard members as well as the military families of the area with a special event. This quarter, they are working to do something special as announcements have been made that nearly 9,000 Iowa National Guard members will be deployed in the coming months. They are organizing an Employers’ Shoutout to support those veterans, military, guard and family members working for area businesses. All employers and one representative per person or family member is invited to come to the IowaWORKS office, 619 N. Carroll St., on Tuesday, March 24 at 1 p.m. to take part in the estimated 45-minute event. The shoutout will be videotaped and include totals of the number of veterans and deployed members, the employers name and an emotive message. They are requesting that any interested parties RSVP as soon as possible by calling 792-2685. They will also be collecting care packages they will then deliver to local armories.
