Sioux City Man Charged With Eluding And Drug Possession Pleads Not Guilty In Carroll County District Court

A Sioux City man accused of fleeing from law enforcement and cocaine possession in District Court for Carroll County has entered not guilty pleas to the charges filed against him. According to court documents, 27-year-old Alex Zamorra Delashmutt submitted his written pleas earlier this week to eluding at speeds 25 mph over the limit, a class D felony, driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance-cocaine, a serious misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident on July 20 of last year near Maple River. An affidavit from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office alleges Delashmutt sped away from an attempted traffic stop at speeds up to 110 mph before fleeing into a cornfield on foot to evade arrest. Authorities later located approximately 0.37 grams of cocaine salts in Delashmutt’s abandoned vehicle. His jury trial has been scheduled to begin on April 28 with a pretrial conference slated for April 9. If found guilty, Delashmutt faces up to seven years in prison and $15,000 in fines.
