St. Anthony Regional Hospital has announced the receipt of another substantial donation for their new cancer center currently under construction at their campus in Carroll. The family of Charles and Mary Heider made of gift of $500,000 to the hospital’s capital campaign. Charlie was a Carroll High School alumnus who served in the U.S. Air Force before graduating from Creighton University in Omaha in 1949. He went on to become a successful financial advisor and regularly donated to St. Anthony before passing away in 2015. Their son, Scott, says, “Dad was born at St. Anthony and grew up in Carroll. Although he is no longer with us, together with Mom, we agreed he would be extremely supportive of the regional cancer center.” In recognition of the critical need for a regional cancer center in Carroll, Scott and his wife, Cindy, and Vice President of Community Giving, Erin Swanson Russell at the Heider Family Foundation, presented the generous donation to representatives from St. Anthony. Development Director, Trish Roberts, says, “This significant gift will allow the Heider family to continue to impact people well into the future. We are grateful and proud to receive this generous gift. The Heider Family Foundation is touching the lives of many patients and families facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.” The $16.5 million, 21,000 square foot facility on the St. Anthony Regional Hospital campus is scheduled to open later this year in December.
