A Mt. Carmel couple has been selected to chair the Sioux City Diocese 2020 Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Schools later this year. The Catholic School Foundation announced yesterday (Thursday) that Kelly and Brenda Foley, members of Our Lady of Mt. Mount Carmel Catholic Church and Kuemper Catholic High School graduates, will serve as the chair couple for the 24th annual event. The Foley’s four daughters all attend Kuemper Catholic School and regard parochial education with high esteem. “We are grateful that our parents recognized the value of Catholic education and we feel blessed to be able to send our children to a Catholic school. We believe deeply in our schools’ mission to provide excellent Catholic education of mind, body and soul to empower all students to achieve the best of their ability in fulfillment of God’s calling,” said the Foleys. Another Carroll-native and Kuemper graduate, Toronto Raptors Head Coach, Nick Nurse, is headlining the Sept. 12 dinner at the Delta Hotels Center in South Sioux City. Nurse led the Raptors to a franchise-first NBA championship in his first year as their head coach. He was also a part of Kuemper’s state basketball championship team in 1985 and went on to play at the University of Northern Iowa. The annual Bishop’s dinner is the largest fundraiser for the 16 Catholic schools in the diocese, and early $200,000 was raised during the 2019 event, which goes back to the schools in the form of tuition scholarships. Tickets go on sale July 15 and can be purchased at www.scdiocese.org.
