James Edward Neil Sr. of Glidden

James Edward Neil Sr., age 80, of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at his home in Glidden surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Tim Friedrichsen officiating. Music for the service will be by Mary Ross as pianist and Mike Bolton as soloist. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Glidden American Legion.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday, March 13, 2020 evening and will resume on Saturday morning at 9:30 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church until the time of service.

Born on October 27, 1939 in Garner, IA, he was the son of George Gabler and Agnes Elizabeth (Busche) Neil. He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1957. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years on the USS Boston the majority of the time as the ships photographer. Upon his honorable discharge, Jim returned to Carroll and worked for Electrolux in Jefferson as an inspector for 40 years. He was married to Judith Gray on May 25, 1963 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple moved to Glidden in 1969 where they raised their four children. Jim was an avid bowler and bowled on many leagues over the years in Carroll. He also enjoyed traveling to Crane Lake in Minnesota to fish, but he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events and giving them rides to wherever they needed. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses: Annette Storesund (Scott) of Des Moines, Janet Steigerwalt (George) of Raleigh, NC, Karen Standley (Shane) of Glidden, and James Neil Jr. (Amanda) of Carroll; ten grandchildren: Steven Storesund, Jacob Steigerwalt, Amy Steigerwalt, Nile Dockter, Amara Moore, Madison Standley, Zachary Neil, Aidan Neil, Autumn Schwery, and Tegan Schwery; three great-grandchild Wesley, Novalynn, and Ellie and one on the way!!; a sister Peggy Schulte (Gerald) Manning; three brothers: John Neil (Betty) of Omaha, Joe Neil of Manning, and George Neil (Joni) of Ft. Collins, CO; two sisters-in-law: Rosie Jensen of Carroll and Marlene Gray of Pomeroy; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Judith Neil in 2016; his parents George and Agnes Neil; and his mother and father-in-law Floyd and Elizabeth Gray.
