In a little more than a month, students and community members will be gathering in the Kuemper Catholic High School gymnasium to package meals for the biennial “Then Feed Just One” event. Once completed, the meals are sent to Honduras to benefit families struggling with hunger. Then Feed Just One is organized by the Kuemper student council, and President, Cole Collison, says they are inviting everyone in the community to be involved in prepping the food for shipment.
The community packing date is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Area businesses, organizations and service groups are encouraged to put together a team to assist during this time. Students will be assembling meals throughout the school day on Thursday, April 16. Tempi Hathcock, another of the organizers, says there are other ways to contribute beyond the packaging dates.
On years that Then Feed Just One is not held, Kuemper students can instead participate in Mission Honduras, a service trip to some of the most impoverished regions of that country. Hathcock, who took part in the 2019 trip, has seen firsthand the impact of food packaging events like the one next month.
The last Then Feed Just One was held in 2018 with more than 317,000 meals assembled and shipped. If interested in donating or volunteering at this year’s event, contact the school at 792-8071 or by following the link included with this story on our website.
