A Carroll woman charged with burglarizing a Coon Rapids home has filed not guilty pleas to the charges levied against her in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 37-year-old McKensie Rae Bess filed her written pleas Thursday to one count of third-degree burglary, a class D felony with a habitual offender enhancement, and credit card fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charges stem from an investigation by the Coon Rapids Police Department into an incident in early February in the 700 block of 6th Avenue. Authorities say Bess broke through the front door of a residence and removed the victim’s television, cell phone, wallet and other items. She is also accused of using a credit card from the stolen wallet to make an online purchase for $40. Bess did not waive her right to a speedy trial, and jury proceedings are scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 28. If found guilty, she faces a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and nearly $14,000 in fines. Bess remains in custody at the Carroll County jail.
