On Wednesday afternoon, Iowa Gov., Kim Reynolds, signed legislation that expands the role of physician assistants. “Enabling physician assistants (PAs) to better serve the health care needs of Iowans will result in better care in a more timely fashion,” Reynolds says. “As the state continues to combat the spread of Covid-19 and the strains it will place on our health care system, this will yet be another tool in our arsenal.” PAs will now have full prescriptive rights, protections similar to other healthcare professions, the ability to be reimbursed by Medicaid and a range of other regulatory changes designed to better enable PAs to serve patients.
