Born on August 31, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa, Dorothy was the daughter of August and Anna (Beerman) Heithoff. She attended St. Peter and Paul School and later graduated from St. Angela Academy in Carroll.  On June 26, 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage to Louis Lechtenberg at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple made their home in Carroll where Dorothy was
employed at St. Anthony Hospital in housekeeping and also cleaned local motels. She also worked at Hardees, Burger King and Walmart until her retirement.  Over the years Dorothy was active with Holy Spirit Church, Parish Ladies Guild, St. Anthony
Hospital Auxiliary and the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas where she served in various capacities.  Dorothy enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting and bowling. She also loved taking her dogs for walks. Since she never had children, Dorothy treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children and grandchildren. In 2015, Dorothy became a resident of Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids where she passed away on Tuesday.
Dorothy is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Lechtenberg of Carroll; several nieces and nephews as well as other extended relatives.
Her parents, August and Anna Heithoff, and her husband Louis, preceded her in death.
