Carroll City Council Will Hold Special Meeting Thursday Afternoon For Development Of Business Assistance Program

The Carroll City Council will be holding a special meeting Thursday afternoon in order to support area businesses during the global Covid-19 pandemic. The state and federal governments and the Small Business Administration (SBA) have developed assistance programs, but Carroll leaders began talking about forming the Carroll Small Business Relief Program because much of that support will come too late. The city is working in partnership with the Carroll Area Development Corporation (CADC) on the creation of a program and the initial request is for the City of Carroll to allocate $100,000 of Local Option Sales Tax (L.0.S.T.) funds. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. The dollar amounts will vary and be determined by the level of impact, but capped at $5,000 per business. Criteria may include: loss in sales revenue, employees and financial need. Their identified goal is to reach as many businesses as possible. The initial timeline suggested has the first round of applications reviewed on Thursday, April 2 for those received by noon of that day. The reviews will then occur on an ongoing basis. The 4:30 p.m. meeting will be held at City Hall, but closed to the general public. Those interested in joining via technological means can do so by following the instructions included below.
