Young Driver Who Crashed Her Car Wednesday Tells Authorities She Blacked Out

A 21-year-old Jefferson woman alleges she blacked out behind the wheel and crashed into a field fence Wednesday afternoon. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on U.S. Highway 30 near the curve at the juncture with 200th Street, just west of Ralston, at approximately 3:32 p.m. The initial investigation revealed that Brooke Lynn Hayes was driving a 2012 Chrysler 200 eastbound on Highway 30 when the issue occurred. She traveled across the westbound lane and into the north ditch, jumping a fenced area. Hayes then tried unsuccessfully to drive out of the field. No injuries were reported but there was an estimated $2,000 in damage to the car and $50 in damage to the fence.
