It has been three weeks since Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a State of Public Health Disaster Emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Iowans are still adjusting to the changes in their daily lives. In Lake View, Administrator, Scott Peterson, says they have modified city operations to comply with recommendations from local, state and federal health officials, such as closing the Lake View Public Library and limiting access to public buildings. Despite these changes, he says overall city services have not been substantially impacted.
For example, construction is nearly complete at the city’s new $6 million wastewater lagoon. The project has been delayed by several months due to weather conditions and other factors, but Peterson believes they will soon begin diverting the flow from their existing sewer plant into the lagoon. However, other springtime events have had to adjust. Each spring, the city hosts a shoreline clean-up, and unfortunately, they’ve been forced to cancel it this year.
The Black Hawk Men’s Club has also canceled their annual Easter egg hunt. Peterson says they are instead introducing a new event that allows families to follow physical distancing recommendations.
Bingo cards can be picked up in front of the Lake View Legion Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11. Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles when getting their cards and while driving through town. Completed cards can be dropped off at the Legion hall for a chance to win Black Hawk Bucks.
