An IKM-Manning student is one of six finalists to win $250 towards their college savings in an Iowa Bankers Association essay contest. Allyson Riester of Manilla participated in the 2020 Money Smart Week competition for a chance at the grand prize $1,000 scholarship. Forty-one middle school students took part in the 14th annual 2020 Money Smart Kid contest and 50 high school students participated in the state’s first Money Smart Teen contest. Entrants in the kids’ competition penned a 500 word essay explaining what predatory lending is, the most common forms and the consequences of using predatory lenders. High school students submitted a 650 word essay on how they would use $25,000 in grant money to improve or help solve an issue affecting their Iowa community’s local economy.
