Kuemper President Discusses Meal Program And Parallels This Pandemic To One Nearly 100 Years Ago

The Kuemper Catholic School System has joined forces with the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) in distributing meals to students. President, John Steffes, says they were in contact with the Carroll district and ready to be called in if they were overwhelmed with requests that were serviced through Fairview Elementary. The last report from their Food Service Director, Sara Anderson, had CCSD putting out close to 1,000 meals in one day.

Steffes adds that as we work together through this COVID-19 pandemic, he says there is another historical event similar to this that hit the area nearly 100 years ago.

Steffes says he wants to make that comparison because as the Spanish Flu pandemic passed, the community became stronger. And that, he stresses, is an important lesson to be learned from this piece of history.
