Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Iowa’s COVID-19 case number has grown to 1,995 during her press conference Wednesday morning. A day after recording 189 confirmed cases, the largest daily increase to date, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) reports 96 cases have been added to the tally. Four additional deaths were also recorded Wednesday in Polk, Clayton, Johnson and Allamakee Counties, bringing Iowa’s total now to 53 coronavirus-related deaths. According to Reynolds, all deaths in the state have occurred in adults over 61 years of age or in individuals with underlying health conditions. Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) Director, Kelly Garcia, noted during the press conference that history shows incidences of physical, domestic, substance and other forms of abuse typically increase during times of crisis and called on Iowans to support their fellow citizens however they can. As for case numbers in the listening area, Audubon, Carroll, and Greene Counties have confirmed only a single case to date. Guthrie County now stands at three cases, Crawford at six and Shelby County at seven. For more information on COVID-19 in Iowa, follow the links included below.
