The City of Manning has been without a grocery store for more than three months after the closure of Heartland Market, but that is set to change next month following a Lenox-based grocer’s announcement they are opening a new branch in town. Ramsey’s Market, owned by Theo and Bonnie Ramsey, is set to take possession of the building in the 500 block of West Street on May 8. Ramsey says they plan to begin operations shortly after this date.

He adds they are hoping to have a team of about 10 employees in place by the time they open their doors to the public. Current plans have Ramsey’s Market open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday though Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, but those hours have not been made official yet. The Ramseys are no strangers to running a rural grocery store with five years’ of experience under their belts from their store in Lenox, a town of approximately 1,400 people.

The Ramseys also own Ace Hardware in Lenox, which features an in-store taco bar called Tiger Taco. As for their future operations in Manning, Ramsey says they plan to bring back many customer favorites, including the deli.

Ramsey says he got a few strange looks when he parked their camper behind the store as their base of operations during the transition, but overall, they could not have expected a warmer welcome.
