A philanthropic women’s group based in Guthrie County announced Thursday their first quarterly donation of 2020 is going to the City of Jamaica to support the construction of a new youth park in the community. Generally, the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County present their quarterly donations in person, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the $11,100 check was mailed to city officials to comply with physical distancing guidelines. One of the park primary advocates, Carla Hilgenberg, says, “We are so excited to get this project started as soon as we can. The park’s plans include purchasing a new piece of playground equipment, installing two new basketball hoops making it full court, replacing swings and building a pickle ball court that will appeal to all ages.” Since its formation in January of 2017, the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County have contributed more than $140,000 in private member donations and company matches to community projects and nonprofits organizations throughout the county.
