Lidderdale Man Pleads Guilty To Stealing Product Scanner From Convenience Store

A Lidderdale man charged with stealing a product scanner from a Carroll convenience store was sentenced last week in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 36-year-old Craig Douglas Vanosdol pled guilty to one count of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, as part of an agreement with prosecutors. He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended, and placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. More than $800 in fines and surcharges were also suspended; however, Vanosdol has been ordered to pay over $2,300 in victim restitution, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. The charge stems from an investigation by the Carroll Police Department into an incident on April 30, 2019 at Sparky’s in the 1500 block of Plaza Drive. Vanosdol removed the scanner, valued at $1,000, with the intent to deprive the store of the item.
