Carroll Supervisors To Get COVID-19 Update And Discuss North Raccoon River Watershed Thursday

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has scheduled another meeting for a COVID-19 update from Emergency Management Coordinator, Sara Anderson. The agenda for the 10 a.m. meeting on Thursday, April 23 also includes a discussion on the North Raccoon River Watershed. Recently, the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) and 11 other partnering organizations received a Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) award, courtesy of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS). Farmers and landowners in the North Raccoon River Watershed will get a boost in establishing more conservation practices on more acres through the five-year program. One of the defining features, totaling more than $25.8 million, is the establishment of area conservation agronomists working in cooperation with ag retailers located within the watershed. This will boost the delivery, efficiency and effectiveness of conservation services to farmers. Farmers will be implementing practices that will reduce an estimated 781,000 pounds of nitrogen export from the watershed as well as 33,600 tons of reduced sediment loss. Eighty-five percent of the land in the watershed is devoted to corn and soybean production. Work is expected to begin later this year with farmer and landowner enrollment taking place in October. Thursday’s meeting will be available for viewing on the county’s YouTube channel, a link to which can be found below. The public is encouraged to make comments or ask questions on agenda items, and details on how to do this can also be found here.
