A home near Lake City has been deemed a total loss after a reignited brush fire set several buildings ablaze. According to Lake City Fire Chief, Lynn Boyd, they received a report at approximately 11:24 a.m. Wednesday of a grass fire getting close to a property owned by Dale Mahon on 375th Street, three miles southeast of Lake City. Boyd says the fire had already spread to nearby structures when they arrived on scene.

Due to the size and intensity of the fires, the Lohrville and Rockwell City Fire Departments were called in to to assist. It took over two hours for firefighters to get the blaze under control, and crews remained on scene for nearly five hours to monitor for hot spots and flare ups. Boyd believes the source of the fire was a combination of high winds and embers left over from recent controlled burns.
