Second COVID-19 Positive Case Confirmed In Carroll County Wednesday Morning

Healthcare authorities are reporting a second positive case of COVID-19 in Carroll County. Director of Carroll County Public Health, Nikki Schwering, says the test results were received this (Wednesday) morning and the patient is in the 41 to 60 year old age category. Schwering can neither confirm nor deny whether or not this patient is hospitalized, but does say they were immediately quarantined. Any reporting on the number of COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized is done on the basis of the Regional Medical Coordination Center districts and not on the actual communities involved. In light of this new case, Schwering says people still need to adhere to their standard recommendations.

Schwering says residents need to actually employ even more caution as Carroll and the surrounding counties are some of the 77 Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has identified for phased reopening of select businesses and organizations. Even with the restrictions in place, everyone should do their part to help mitigate spread.

Anyone who is exhibiting symptoms of fever, cough and difficulty breathing are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider by phone. Schwering says people are also asked to go the TestIowa website and enter their information. This assessment will tell them whether or not they should get tested, but Schwering says they have some concerns about people traveling to the current drive-up testing location in Des Moines or the one in Waterloo opening today (Wednesday).

Carroll County Public Health puts out an update every day at 11 a.m. on their Facebook page, a link to which can be found below. As of noon on Tuesday, April 28, there had been 164 tests administered in Carroll County with 146 negative results and 18 pending.
