May is Mental Health Awareness month and Summer Parrott, who is a part of the mental health ministry at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll, says they are working to raise awareness with the goal of eliminating the stigma associated with mental health issues.
One of the ways they are connecting and supporting these types of mental health is by supplying positivity signs to community members. The signs offer an opportunity to share an uplifting message in a yard display.
These are very simple and eye-catching white signs with black lettering. Parrott says they started with 10 sayings to choose from and signs are available for $10 each. The back of all of these gives a simple line of encouragement, saying “Don’t Give Up.” She says you can either put it in your yard or request the ministry to put them in another location. The City of Carroll has offered to allow placement in public areas.
She says other communities who have used the signs have seen great outcomes.
Anyone interested in ordering a sign can do so by contacting Parrott on her Facebook page, a link to which is included below, or by calling or texting her cell phone at 712-790-2700. If they have the requested sign in stock she will give them instructions for pickup. If not on hand, she will let them know when they will be in. Payment is not due until pick up.
