Jefferson Man Who Had To Be Tased Last Week Leads Authorities On High-Speed Chase Sunday

A Jefferson man who was Tased last Thursday for eluding officers and resisting arrest after a careless driving complaint, led authorities from Greene and Carroll Counties on a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon. It started when the Jefferson Police Department received an anonymous report at approximately 2:10 a.m. Sunday that 32-year-old Steven Logan Dzuris was operating a motor vehicle in the city limits with a barred driver’s license. An officer spoke with Dzuris, advising him he was not legally allowed to drive until an issue was resolved with the Department of Transportation (DOT). At approximately 12:22 p.m. that same day, an officer with the police department and a deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle they suspected Dzuris was driving. Dzuris fled the scene, heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 30, but soon turned south on Kirkwood Avenue then westbound on 237th Street, reaching speeds of around 110 miles per hour. As authorities gave chase, Dzuris turned north into Scranton, at which time an Iowa State Patrol unit and another Jefferson officer joined the pursuit. Dzuris traveled into Carroll County, where a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy and Carroll Police Department officer deployed spike strips, which struck the driver’s side tires. The pursuit continued westbound, where a “rolling roadblock” was initiated, stopping the vehicle just east of Carroll on Highway 30. Dzuris was arrested and charged with driving while barred, reckless driving, third-offense operating under the influence, interference with official acts and eluding. A Jefferson officer sustained lacerations to his arm during the incident from broken glass. A link to the story on Thursday’s incident can be found below.
