The Carroll County Board of Supervisors met this (Wednesday) afternoon as they continue to adjust the county’s operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They began the meeting with an update from Emergency Management Coordinator, Sara Anderson, who says two announcements regarding personal protective equipment (PPE) were made Wednesday morning
Anderson adds their PPE supply has stabilized somewhat, but it remains difficult to have orders delivered in a timely manner. County officials are communicating with staff from Smithfield Foods in Carroll to monitor their ability to secure PPE for workers. Adequate testing supplies for the county were also a concern earlier this week, but Anderson says that issue has been resolved.
Their focus then shifted towards collecting ballots for the June 2 primaries. According to Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, their recommendation for residents to vote by mail appears to have been heard.
The board continues to prepare for the courthouse’s eventual reopening, but a firm date has still not been established. Gene Meiners’ thoughts on resuming operations matched the other supervisors.
Plexiglass sneeze guards have been installed in the office windows in the lobby, and they are exploring their options for installing physical distancing markers and sanitizing stations for when they do reopen. No formal action was taken Wednesday, but the board will address the topic again on May 13. The supervisors also scheduled another COVID-19 meeting at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 8 via YouTube.
