As the weather turns warmer in the coming days, many of us are getting the itch to get outside and get involved with our favorite activities. This, however, may require some adaptations as we work to adhere to physical distancing and gathering limitation guidelines brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Live Healthy Iowa Kids wants to help everyone manage their physical and emotional health and have expanded their Go The Distance May program participation. This will now include families and households and has an identified goal of reaching 30,000 Iowans. There are fun and free opportunities for everyone to get moving together and it is a very easy, three-part process to take part. First plan a 30-minute activity—and get creative. Build you own fitness stations or an obstacle course, plan an outdoor scavenger hunt, explore a nearby trail or have your family hold your own COVID dance party. The second step is to register online at www.livehealthyiowakids.org. And finally, once registered, share your activity on social media and tag Live Healthy Iowa using #GoTheDistanceMay or submit your photos to info@livehealthyiowa.org. The project is open all month, so choose the day and time that works best for you.
