A Fort Dodge man originally charged with felony robbery and theft was sentenced to probation Monday in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 19-year-old Tyraius Percel McElroy pled guilty to only first-degree theft, a class C felony, after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. McElroy was sentenced Monday to three years of probation with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services and ordered to pay more than $1,125 in fines, surcharges, restitution and other legal fees. McElroy’s request for a deferred judgment was approved, meaning court records regarding the case will be expunged upon successful completion of his probation. The charges stemmed from an incident outside Ossy’s Show Club during the early morning of Sept. 19. Authorities say McElroy assaulted a man and stole his wallet. The victim attempted to stop McElroy from leaving the scene by reaching through the window of his 2006 BMW 525I as he was pulling away. McElroy continued driving, dragging the victim until he let go.
