Many local campgrounds are set to reopen tomorrow (Friday) following Gov. Kim Reynolds proclamation earlier this week that ended their mandated closure. Staff at two of the region’s most popular camping destinations, Swan Lake State Park near Carroll and Camp Crescent in Lake View, spent much of the day Thursday preparing for the expected influx of campers. The governor’s proclamation permits their reopening provided they implement reasonable measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Administrator, Scott Peterson, says Camp Crescent is set to open at 5 a.m. Friday with those added mitigation methods.

All Carroll County Conservation campgrounds are scheduled to open at 8 a.m. Friday with similar restrictions. Only self-contained camping units will be allowed with a maximum of six people per site. Due to limited space at Swan Lake State Park, Conservation Director, Jason Christensen, says they plan to reduce occupancy by half.

Christensen adds many services will be limited at Swan Lake.

Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and Christensen would not be surprised to see quite a few campers this weekend. Peterson expects a similar situation, as they still have many reservations still scheduled.

Regulations can vary between campgrounds, and visitors are encouraged to call ahead to their destination site to check requirements and confirm availability.
