After 67 Years, The Catholic Globe Gets A New Name And A New Look

Yesterday (Thursday), the official newspaper of the Sioux City Diocese, The Catholic Globe, announced that a major change is being made after the paper’s 67-year history. Media Director/Editor, Dawn Prosser, says that the May 21, 2020 edition will be the last Catholic Globe and they will be renamed The Lumen effective June 4. “Lumen is Latin for ‘light,’ and was thoughtfully selected as the name for the media office and our products as it better represents who we are, our efforts and our mission to enlighten the faithful of northwest Iowa,” Prosser says. This rebranding will have no impact on distribution and subscribers will continue to receive either the print or E-edition. The newly branded media office, Lumen Media, will also offer two new electronic newsletters beginning in June—LumeNotes and Notas Lumen in English and Spanish, for those Catholics who would prefer to read short, condensed news articles sent to them on their phones, tablets or computers. These will be free of charge and act as a supplement to the newspaper. Lumen Media will also continue communications through their social media platforms of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for immediate news and previews of stories. Bishop, R. Walker Nickless, will remain publisher for both the newspaper and media office.
