Dozens of juniors and seniors from South Central Calhoun (SCC) High School donned their dresses and tuxedoes on Saturday night to celebrate a somewhat different version of prom. SCC was unable to hold their traditional spring prom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Krissy Macke, the owner of Krissy’s Kreations Photo Studio in Lake City, wanted to find a way for these students to still experience one of the final high points of their high school careers.
Macke reached out to students through social media, the local paper and word of mouth to let them know of the opportunity and set up an area inside Macke Motors in Lake City to take photos of the couples. Macke says they designed the drive-through prom to allow participants to follow guidelines from health officials
Macke adds each student will receive 5” x 7” photos from the drive-through prom, courtesy of Macke Motors. While Saturday’s festivities did not include the usual dance and after-prom, the community got involved in helping the students to celebrate the night.
The final hurdle for the class of 2020 is graduation. School officials are moving forward with two plans. The first involves seniors walking across the stage in downtown Lake City at the end of the month while parents watch from their vehicles. If this is not feasible, staff will hand deliver diplomas to graduates at their homes. SCC is expected to make a formal announcement later this month regarding how graduation will proceed.
