The Coon Rapids-Bayard Community School District Board of Education was able to make some decisions on the end of this school year and a preliminary outlook for the start of the next one at a Monday night meeting. Immediately following, they distributed a digital letter to parents giving them access to these plans. The board will be rolling the last day of school back by three days, from May 27 to May 22, but starting the new school year earlier, on Aug. 17. They say, “It is our opinion that trading three days of virtual learning for five days of face-to-face learning will be better for the kids.” Graduation for the class of 2020 is slated for July 19 and they are planning to hold a formal ceremony that is “as close to normal as possible.” As with all other planned events and gatherings, this will be dependent on the COVID-19 situation and restrictions at that time. Senior Awards Night will be virtual this year and they are working on a date for the event. And this year’s prom has been scheduled for June 28 with pictures starting at 3:30 p.m., the Grand March at 5 p.m., the dinner and dance at the Raccoon River Social Club from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and after prom from 10 p.m. to midnight. If they are unable to hold the prom due to any physical distancing or gathering regulations, it will have to be cancelled with no options on rescheduling. These details and many others about grades, books and student devices and summer school can be found on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page on the school’s website, a link to which is included below.
