Sixth District Republican Candidate, Williams, Says Pandemic Changed Many Things, But Fundamental Tenants Still Need Support In State Legislature

There are two Republican candidates vying for the opportunity to represent the party on the November ballot for Iowa’s 6th District Senate seat. Craig Williams, an independent agriculture consultant and chair of the Carroll County Republican Party, says the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the face of his planned campaign.

The pandemic has not only changed the face of his campaign, Williams says this has also shifted the priorities for our state leaders. He says although there is no shortage of opinions on COVID-19, there is a shortage of solutions and he is confident in his ability to help lead us in the recovery.

As a self-professed fiscal conservative, Williams predicts many differences in the state’s budget than what is typical. Legislators will need to spend a little more on things they didn’t plan to, Williams says, but there is only so much money to go around. He knows all of the taxpayers are hurting, so leaders are going to have to tighten spending in some areas and loosen it in others while we work on recovery in support of businesses, residents and our farmers. The main thing Williams says is that he wants to be a good steward of the people’s money. He knows they work hard to earn it, and that should be respected. As of Tuesday, there had been 5,362 absentee ballots requested for the district, but only 554 had been returned. This type of voting is being recommended right now, but Williams says he hopes it does not become the norm.

Williams points to his experience as the biggest attribute he will bring to the position. This includes a 30-year career in business and agriculture along with political service.

He says outside of the pandemic, there are several conservative platforms that are constantly under fire and he would like the legislature to continue to make Iowa as pro-life and pro-second amendment as possible. Whatever the issue, Williams says as a data nerd anything he is presented with will be thoroughly vetted to ensure he is acting and voting in the best interests of the constituents.
