Carroll Volunteer Fire Department Brings Home New Pumper

On Friday, members of the Carroll Fire Department were able to pick up a nearly $436,400 brand new pumper truck at Toyne Inc. of Breda. Chief, Greg Schreck, says this newest addition to their fleet has a slightly different look.

As this truck is moved into their rotation, Schreck says an older one has been removed.

That 1983 truck was sold to a member of the general public for a little less than $2,900. Now that the pumper is at home in the station, Schreck says it will take about two weeks or so before they will be able to put it into service. COVID-19 is partially responsible for this lengthened timeline.

And although this is an exciting new addition for all members of the department, Schreck says there was about five years of anticipation of its arrival as this was one piece in the city’s long-term planning. Schreck says staying on top of the equipment rotation is a necessity to keep the fleet up-to-date. However, he adds they hope it doesn’t get a lot of use.

In anticipation of receiving the truck, the volunteer firefighters decided to use some accumulated funds from the annual Fireman’s Dance to purchase four new airpaks from Feld Fire at a total cost of about $21,000.
