A Jefferson woman was uninjured but one horse was killed and a second suffered injuries in an accident early Wednesday morning. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene just to the north of Coon Rapids on Velvet Avenue at approximately 5:04 a.m. Upon arrival, they found that 31-year-old Ashley Fawn-Marie Scanlon had been driving northbound in a 2005 Mercury Mariner when she came upon a group of horses in front of a residence at 31646 Velvet Ave. She was unable to avoid striking two of the horses, which were housed with Loretta Carpenter, but belonged to her daughter. The vehicle Scanlon was driving is owned by Joshua Lee Wilson of Perry and suffered disabling damage, estimated at about $3,500.
