Gov. Kim Reynolds announced during Tuesday’s press conference more segments of Iowa’s economy will be allowed to reopen next week. Beginning Monday, June 1, speedways and racetracks, outdoor performance venues, casinos and gaming facilities, amusements parks, bowling alleys, pool halls and arcades can resume business at 50-percent normal capacity. Social, community, recreational, leisure and sports gatherings of more than 10 people can also resume June 1. However, attendees must be able to maintain physical distancing while at these events. All other existing mitigation measures, restrictions and mandated closures laid out in previous proclamations are to remain in place. As the state continues to reopen, Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) Deputy Director, Sarah Reisetter, stresses the importance of following guidelines laid out by health officials. Iowans should still wash their hands frequently with soap and water, maintain physical distancing, wear a face covering when physical distancing is not possible and stay home when feeling sick. Reisetter urged Iowans over 65 years old and individuals with underlying health conditions to limit travel outside the home to essential reasons. Following the three-day holiday weekend, Iowa’s COVID-19 case count grew to 17,659 with 1,244 new cases and 47 additional coronavirus-related deaths. As for case numbers in the listening area, Calhoun County stands at three, Carroll County at nine and Audubon County at 12. Sac and Greene Counties have grown to 13 cases, Guthrie at 43 and Crawford County with 485. For more information on COVID-19 in Iowa, follow the links included below.
