The Iowa Legislative Session reconvenes today (Wednesday), and 6th Senate District Republican, Mark Segebart, says he believes it may take the full month of June to finish the suspended session. The 88th General Assembly was closed temporarily on March 17 after the announcement of the community-spread of COVID-19 and remained closed for more than two and a half months. Segebart says the economic impact of the pandemic has been significant and legislators have a goal of giving Iowans confidence to return to work and pursue career opportunities. He says that after record unemployment and more and more families struggling to make ends meet, measures that grow the state, provide sustainability and ensure reliable funding in the budgets are more important than ever. Staffing will be pared down for the remainder of the session and the Senate will be operating without clerks in the chamber. Segebart is finishing up his second term in the Iowa Senate, announcing early last year he would not be running in 2020. Two local names will be on that November ballot for the 6th District Senate seat, Democrat C.J. Petersen of Breda and Republican Primary winner, Craig Williams of Manning.
