Sac County Sheriff, Ken McClure, Secures Republican Nomination And Is Unlikely To Face Any Challengers On Nov. Ballot

Following last night’s (Tuesday) Republican primary for Sac County Sheriff, incumbent, Ken McClure, has essentially secured another term in office. At this time, no Democratic candidates have filed to run for the position, so he will likely run uncontested on the November ballot. Unofficial results show McClure collecting 1,200 votes to 721 for his challenger, Lake View Police Chief, Royce Kemmann. McClure says he was happy to see he still has the support of Sac County residents.

Kemmann ran on a platform of increased community involvement, particularly within the county’s schools. McClure says he has always encouraged his staff to pursue positive interactions with the county’s residents and this is something he plans to continue for as long as he holds the office.

He adds they are always looking for ways they can improve as a law enforcement agency, but the sheriff’s duties extend beyond policing. It also includes management of the county’s jail, which was built in 1937 and houses inmates from at least one neighboring county. McClure says it is feasible the design and construction of a new facility could be on the horizon for his office.

The results of Tuesday’s Sac County Sheriff Republican primaries are unofficial until canvassed by the Sac County Board of Supervisors. To view results of primaries statewide, visit sos.iowa.gov.
